There are less than 6,700 Sumatran Orangutans surviving in the wild. If current trends continue, their species will be the first among the Great Apes to become extinct. The Sumatran Orangutan Society works with local communities alongside the Orangutan habitat to ensure this doesn't happen. The next chapter of the Open Air series takes place in Finland, where Cheryl gets some help with Eero Ettala in finding the best spots in Helsinki. Her trip then gets cut short as she is set a challenge from Terje Haakonsen, who wants her to compete in the Arctic Challenge in Oslo. In this episode Cheryl goes on her first backcountry trip of the season to Silverton, Colorado. Teamed with Kimmy Fasani and Hana Beaman the girls all push themselves and each other to new limits, landing tricks that have never been done before. Perfect conditions of blue skies and masses of fresh snow, the girls also head up to a mountain hut to find the best of the good stuff. Volcom snowboarder Cheryl Maas launches the first episode of her highly anticipated film project “Open Air” Cheryl was followed for six months doing what makes her the most driven, motivated and rewarded – filming. Most of the winter was spent traveling around Europe and the US with filmer John Rodrick. The two-person crew gave Cheryl the freedom to push herself and her riding in whatever way she wanted. Last week Volcom took a road trip with the crew down to Uckfield for the UK stop on the Wild in the Parks skate tour. Nick Stansfield, Harry Lintell and Gav Coughlan were welcomed by friendly locals and sunshine when they arrived for a pre-event shred on Friday. After a good meal the crew retreated to the hotel, keen for the Wild in the Parks the next day. However, it very nearly didn’t happen.
