Reed Space Honolulu

So many of you know about Staple's retail and art gallery space - Reed Space - in the Lower East Side of New York. There's also a Reed Space in Aoyama, Tokyo, Japan. But what do you know about... REED SPACE HONOLULU, HAWAII? That's right, Reed Space will be opening a pop-up shop in Honolulu real soon. The store will stock contemporary art and design books, publications, and select accessories. Jeff himself has curated a selection of cutting edge titles and brands for the pop-up store. These titles represent the pulse of global contemporary visual and design culture, and...

Ben Cove at Roaming ROOM

BEN COVE, HUGH MENDES, JENNY MOORE KOSLOWSKY, FAYE PEACOCK 'Roaming ROOM' is an initiative set up by ROOM London, involving visits to artists studios + galleries throughout London. During these studio visits, the good folk at ROOM have encountered many exceptional artists. Tomorrow, they'll be presenting four of them. Faye Peacock's sound work has pathos and extreme sensitivity........she sat in a car and paid strangers £10 to tell her that they love her and make her feel like it was real. Not as easy as it sounds. Jenny Moore Koslowsky builds precarious structures which teeter and lean. They are...

It’s The Summer Of Love…

Living in the UK most of us have learnt not to expect too much from our summers. We learn to cherish those few precious days of glorious sunshine, enjoy the rare, blissful beach trips, the idyllic BBQs, and those heavenly days spent lying on the grass with the sun warming our skin. Unfortunately not everyday can be as perfect as that all sounds. Us Britons are plagued with temperamental weather and working hours, which always seem to coincide with those infrequent sunny days. To fill that sunless hole in our hearts, or maybe just tease it further into a...

Auto Emotion - Nick Gentry At Studio55

As part of their ongoing series of stellar events at Studio55 in London, 55DSL now welcome London artist Nick Gentry to the studio to exhibit some of his fine work on Thursday 24th June. Technology today is moving at an increasingly rapid pace. Computers and the internet have become all-consuming - so much so that tangible media is fast becoming obsolete. CDs, Vinyl, DVDs, even books - these things are all being replaced by digital equivalents. Nick Gentry's paintings - utilising the now almost novel floppy disk - seek to highlight the relentless, exponential growth of technology, and what...

Dominic Wilcox: FIELD.

Milan's Salone Internazionale del Mobile at Entratalibera is in full swing right now, and artist Dominic Wilcox has several works on show there. One of them is Field, an installation made from over 500 eco-friendly Terra Plana shoes and 'grass' laces that rise into the air as if reaching for the light. The installation seeks to explore issues of ecology and sustainability - which also happen to be the founding principles of Terra Plana. It's a pretty good match if you ask me. The Terra Plana shoe featured is the Pop: The Pop was chosen by Wilcox because unlike most...

Lyrics And Type.

The good folk over at Very Nearly Almost have hooked up with Wooden Toy magazine to produce a group show entitled... LYRICS AND TYPE. The show is all about the combination of lyrics and type (funnily enough), and will definitely appeal to the more typographic-inclined art lovers out there. I've always been a bit of a lunatic typography fiend, so I'm there for real. Anyway, Wooden Toy and VNA have carefully selected 16 artists from around the world to take part, and VNA will be screen printing super limited copies (30 to be exact) of each artist's design. They'll be...

Space Available: Studio55

Studio55 is a working creative space in the heart of London’s bustling media hub, Soho. Situated above the 55DSL store on Newburgh Street (just off Carnaby Street), Studio55, formally the upstairs part of the store, recently became a disused space that was crying out for some TLC. After working with, collaborating and supporting artists and musicians for the past 15 years and gaining much respect within the media world, 55DSL wanted to create a space that complimented the store and that could be used by creative types looking for somewhere to either work, play or exhibit. After much thought,...

Jeff Burch For Insight.

So a while back we posted about Dutch boys Attak being let loose on Insight's new headquarters in Biarritz as part of Insight's Garage Artists project. Here's Insight Garage Artist Jeff Burch doing his thang with this wild and wacky art installation in the new General Pants Co. store in Melbourne: Pretty nifty huh? www.insight51.com...

Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.

So yesterday I went along to the National Portrait Gallery to have a looksies at this year's Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition. Essentially, the prize enables photographers from all over the world (either amateur or professional) to submit their work, and the end result is an exhibition showcasing THE very best contemporary portrait photography in the world today. This year, over 2,400 photographers submitted more than 6,300 images - with only 60 being chosen to show at the exhibition. I wouldn't want to be THAT judge. The whole thing was actually really involving; I spent a good while going...
